Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Marjorie Jackson (illustrator). 1st Edition. This is a book of poetry by an English teacher and journalist from Belchertown, Massachusetts, privately printed by his family as a memorial since Belding F. died the year before this book was published. It's a nice job. Very well printed on lovely paper with red used for major headings, and illustrated with a few photographs and some drawings by the poet's daughter, Marjorie Jackson. There is a Foreword by Donald Gifford, and a biographical note by the poet's son, George. It is rather charming, considering the family effort to produce this tribute, that this copy has further family associations. The book is inscribed on a front blank: "For J & C, who would have loved this man - my father" and signed "M" - for Marjorie Jackson, or Marge. Loosely inserted in this copy is a long piece of paper - the same brown marbled paper as used for the endpapers. On the reverse is a typewritten letter from Marge to "Dears Jim and Carolyn" - presumably the "J & C" of the inscription. A charming letter which mentions that the Jackson family had printed 1,000 copies of this book of father's poems, but since they failed to publicize it, the sales, it seems, were rather low. The letter also explains that Marge is enclosing a "demented family portrait" and indeed the sepia photograph of, I assume, Marge and her mother and her husband, nicely mounted in an oval card frame, is also tucked into the book. A fine copy in a very good dust jacket, browned on the plain spine panel and with short closed tears either side of the spine. Signed by Illustrator(s).
