Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. It has all first edition indicators with a very engaging pictorial cover. This was a rebinding exercise for me, so the book was pulled, repaired, resewn and rebacked in brown cloth with a paper label and somewhat makeshift headbands. BUT it is very strong and solid. You ca…n pick it up and actually read it. It's not delicate at all. A 1908 memoir by Jack Tisdale (published under the pen name Lieu Tisdale). The book details his real-life adventures as a young sailor aboard the USS Olympia during the Spanish-American War, including the famous Battle of Manila Bay. Originally published in 1908, a decade after the events described, Three Years Behind the Guns is an amusing, gritty look at life aboard a man-o'-war at a time when the United States was on the cusp of becoming a great power. It looks like an early century YA novel, but it isn't. It is actually an interesting, informative, and amusing adult page-turner. I read it all the way thru. Chris Jorgensen and George Varian (illustrator).
