First edition. A lovely collection of limited (one of 50), numbered water-colour prints by the Belgian artist Jacano. These 7 plates are all on the subject of cutting and processing trees into timber in the Congo. Each is numbered in pencil below the artists printed signature. High quality images. Tipped onto heavy, laid paper. The title of each work is printed in the corner. There is a touch of darkening to the page edges only. The 7 prints are held within a stiff card folder / portfolio, which has the publication details and state that the set is limited to 50 copies. The folder is a little darkened, has some edge-wear and marking, there is a repaired tear to the top edge. Jacques Hanot (known as Jacano) was a Belgian artist, born in Brussels in 1923. He travelled to the Congo several times, sponsored by Sabena airlines. He was a diverse artist, and often designed posters and painted water-colours on the subject of the Congo. 7 sheets. Kalina, 1955. Original coloured poster showing an African woman carrying a child and balancing a large bottle on her head. Signed and dated by Jacano and numbered in pencil 20/50. Ca. 61 x 39 cm. An attractive poster for an exhibition of Jacano's work to be held in Kalina in the then Belgian Congo. Jacano, pseudonym for Jacques Hanot (1923 - 1995), was a Belgian painter, draftsman, watercolourist, ceramist and poster designer. His work is characterized for the use of vibrant and bright colors. He often stayed abroad, so a large part of his oeuvre deals with Congo, Egypt, Nigeria and Argentina. - Creases where the poster has been folded otherwise fine.
Sans lieu, sans nom d'éditeur, 1950.40 x 31 cm, 17 estampes sous farde. Les estampes en couleur sont toutes numérotées à la main 22/100.Il n'y a aucune indication d'imprimeur, d'éditeur, ni de lieu d'édition. Ces feuillets sont peut-être manquants. Nous n'avons tri-ouvé aucune référence pour ce recueil nous ne pouvons donc affirmer s'il est complet ou non. JACANO (Jacques Hanot), 1923 - 1995 . Peintre belge. Etudie à l'académie d'Ixelles. Voyage en Afrique ( Congo, Sénégal, Egypte, Angola ) de 1949 à 1955. Réalise la décoration du pavillon du Congo lors de l'Exposition de 1958 à Bruxelles. Livres.
