Illustrated with many photographs, maps, and drawings. With the double-page Map Showing Route Taken by Fr. Silvestre Velez de Escalante July 29th, 1776 Jan 2nd, 1777. Numerous photographs of prominent Catholic buildings, including a double-page plate of Judge Memorial Home. The volume shows general light shelf wear; the boards are lightly scratched, and there is some rubbing and bumping to the edges and corners. Binding is solid and square. Internally clean and bright. Ex-libris Historian J. Roderic Korns, with his prior ownership label affixed to the front pastedown. Korns was a noted historian of the American West and author the work "West from Fort Bridger: The Pioneering of the Immigrant Trails Across Utah 18461850," which he completed with the assistance of Dale L. Morgan. This work is a review of Spanish and Missionary Explorations, Tribal Divisions, names and regional habitats of the pre-European tribes, the Journal of the Franciscan Explorers and discovers of Utah Lake. Covers the trailing of the priests from Santa Fe, N.M., with Map of the route, illustrations, and delimitations of the Great Basin.
