Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Included. A large black cloth, hardback book, with gilt titles running along the spine and decorative gilt imprint on front board. Comes with a nice black box, slipcase. This wonderful book is in super condition and looks like it's hardly been used or read. Normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Paradise Lost was first published in Ten Books in 1667. The author later revised and augmented the work, which was published in Twelve Books in 1674, by S. Simmons, next door to the Golden Lion in Aldersgate Street. It is this version, which is reproduced here, in the Cambridge University Press Edition, edited by William Aldis Wright, and published in 1903. The introduction is a substantially revised version of John Wain's essay, Strength and Isolation, first published in The Living Milton, ed. Frank Kermode, 1960. Please note this a very large and heavy book therefore postage may increase from listed price depending on final destination. 304 pages all intact and all pages, text, gorgeous illustrations are in excellent, readable order. Set in 16 point 'Monotype' Bembo, 2 points leaded, with Centaur display type, by Gloucester Typesetting Services, Stonehouse, Gloucester. Printed at Butler and Tanner Ltd, Frome, on Trojan Wove Paper, with stunning illustrations printed at Lawrence Allen Ltd, Weston-Super-Mare, on Rivoli Rag Content Paper from the Rives Mill. Bound by Butler & Tanner in full buckram blocked with a design by the artist. A fabulous book from The Folio Society, that would grace any stylish home library.
