Prize-winning and internationally acclaimed, his works have sparked fierce debate. Some have been censored or banned. Mäki is known for his uncompromising artistic expression and for his relentless struggle against consumer capitalism, affected aesthetics and moral hypocrisy. This art book consists of picture and texts written into to pictures. With his characteristic philosophical picture writing Mäki aims to show the world and ourselves as we really are. Mäki is relativist, his moral reflections are disconcerting and his socialist criticism of sociaty free of illusions. His works contain a grotesque, humorous aesthetic and dissonant imagery expressing a Dionysian and amoral ethos that disregards the laws of harmony. Teemu Mäki is studying for his doctorate at Helsinki s Academy of Fine Arts. This book has been published to accompany his exhibition at the Helsinki Art Hall, January 2002. That exhibition is the main feature of his doctoral work.
