Camille Lemonnier's 'Birds and Beasts' is an exquisite collection of stories that explores the complexities of human nature through the lens of animal behavior. Lemonnier's literary style is characterized by vivid descriptions, intricate character development, and a keen eye for the natural world. Set in the late 19th century, this book reflects the emergence of naturalism in literature, a movement that sought to depict life as it is, without romanticizing or idealizing it. By using animals as allegorical figures, Lemonnier delves deep into the human psyche, inviting readers to contemplate their own primal instincts and desires. Each story is a thought-provoking exploration of the boundaries between civilization and instinct, reason and passion. Camille Lemonnier, a Belgian author and art critic, was known for his keen observations of society and human psychology. His background in the arts and literature inspired him to create 'Birds and Beasts' as a reflection of the human condition. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
