No date given but there is an elegant penciled name on front free endpage dated 1885. Reading ribbon sewn in. Book is firm in binding, b&w illustrations by John Proctor, some plates. Tissue guard over frontispiece drawing is intact. 127 pp. Includes 32 pages of "Catalog of books for the young, of all ages, suitable for presents and school prizes. " Rear endpages have penciled drawings of a teacher and a ballerina. Withdrawn from a public library, with one internal stamp only, and a typed card catalogue laid in. Contains [viii] 336, [8 page catalogue], printer's code 2M-D-6/97, June 1897. First edition showed 1880 in Roman Numerals, this is the 5th edition, see Newbolt pages 34 and 35. Eight illustrations including the frontispiece and eleven folding battle plans as called for. Smart Prize Plate inside dated 1897, spine colours only very slightly faded, corners and spine ends rubbed, light thumb marks to the title page and in Very Good clean condition.
