Wear and rubbing along the edges of the panels with heavy bumping to the head and heel of the spine and heavy bumping on the corners of the panels with some fraying to the binding there. Split in binding where webbing is visible between pages xvi and xvii, 80-81, 160-161, 224-225,and 240-241. Pages are lightly browned. John Henry Hutton war jahrzehntelang in Indien einer der bedeutendsten Ethnologen und Anthropologen mit wichtigen Publikationen zu seinem Spezialgebiet, den Naga-Völkern in Assam. Ihm wurde als 'Census-Commissioner' die Organisation des 1931er-Census übertragen; eine Herkules-Aufgabe, die ohne seine enormen Kenntnisse und seinen Einsatz nicht diesen großen Erfolg gehabt hätte: Dieser Census meisterte zum ersten Mal seit einem eher bescheidenen Versuch bei dem 1901er-Census die Aufgabe, einen umfassenden Überblick auch und gerade über die unzählig vielen wenig erforschten Völkerstämme Indiens zu bekommen. Das gelang u.a. deshalb, weil Hutton sich die Mitarbeit fast aller namhaften Ethnologen Indiens für dieses Projekt sichern konnte, u.a. Mills, K. Iyer, Grigson et.al.
