The January 7 issue contains a two page extract from Evelyn Waugh's Decline and Fall. Jan. 21st has a picture feature by Brassai, Pari…s by Night. Magazines lack covers, but otherwise are all in very good condition or better. Crack along the front joint, but binding is holding perfectly well. An illuminating depiction of British society in the run-up to World War II.

Vignette illustration on title page. Endpapers and the first few pages lightly spotted and browning with age. Each magazine separately paginated. Many b/w advertisements of the era in each magazine. Profusely illustrated in black and white. INDEX. Contents cover all manner of nursing and medical articles including - Interpretation of Xrays; Nursing as a sign of culture; Florence Nightingale; For the Midwife; Nursing in the Holy Land; Silkworm gut; Surgery ancient and modern; Medical Emergency station in the Libyan Desert; Murder by poison. etc, etc. Articles are written by various practising nurses and medical and surgical authorities, etc. VERY THICK and HEAVY. Apart from the edge browning which is relatively uniform throughout the book is CLEAN BRIGHT and TIGHT. It is considered a pioneering example of photojournalism and was an immediate success, selling 1,700,000 copies a week after only two months. It has been called the UK's equivalent of the USA 'Life' magazine.
