Tabloid. Condition: Good. no date, circa 1970. Side folding tabloid newspaper. 16 pp. Single issue of this underground newspaper devoted to counterculture and radical issues, aligned with the White Panther Party and John Sinclair. This issue with first aid tips for protesters, as well as tips on the use of various guns. News on protests in Paris, national news, etc. Rear cover with a large print poem by activist and Black Panther Party member, Ericka Huggins printed under an image of Black Panther member Joan Bird with a black eye she received when she was beaten by a Black patrolman. This also talks about the Panther 21 and the Committee to free Joan Bird. GOOD condition. Some toning and minor soiling. Paper a little brittle. A few tiny tears along the edges. Diagonal crease at the upper corner. Faint fold crease present.

Condition: Near fine. A handbill for a rally outside the 300 North Los Angeles Street Federal Building in Los Angeles, California, protesting the trials of Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black Panther Party (BPP), and Ericka Huggins, founder of the BPP's New Haven chapter. In 1970, as part of the 19691971 New Haven Black Panther trials, Seale and Huggins were tried for the murder of suspected FBI informant Alex Rackley. The flier advertises speakers from the BPP, the "C.U.P.P." (unknown, possibly a branch of the BPP) and the National United Committee to Free Angela Davis. Charges against Seale and Huggins were dismissed in 1971 after a jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict. We find no other examples on WorldCat. Approximately 5 x 8 inches. Near fine with tiny chip to upper margin.

First Edition. First Printing. Small octavo (15cm); original pictorial card wrappers; [4],5-84,[4]pp; illus. Signed by Ericka Huggins on the title page. Pinpoint wear to extremities, tiny stress creases to upper left corner of rear wrapper, else a clean, very Near Fine copy. Scarce collection of poems co-authored by Newton and Huggins, chronicling themes of loss, imprisonment, and liberation, including two illustrations in-text by Huggins. Newton's poems were left behind just prior to his self-imposed exile in Havana, Cuba, where he lived until 1977. "Ericka Huggins' poems are the telling introspective record of her own life during the years since her husband, Jon Huggins, was assassinated in Los Angeles in 1969" (from rear wrapper). An especially well-preserved copy, very uncommon signed. 84128.
