Rev. Abraham R. Howbert was Chaplain of the 84th Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry, during its service of a little over three months in 1862 at Cumberland, Maryland and New Creek, West Virginia. Endpapers split at hinges but webbing is holding fine. Corners and edges rubbed. Interior clean and unmarked. Book is sturdy. 12 mo. 6-3/4" x 4-5/8". 388 pp. including index. There is a half title page and a copyright date on verso of half title. But then it seems that the title page might be missing. However, the engraved portrait of the author is on the recto of the next page which is not usual if there is a title page. Maybe there never was a title page. Not sure. Floral patterned endpapers. Cover blind stamped with a floral band at top and bottom.
