A fascinating collection of material with a fine scholarly introduction and notes. On the second voyage, Gray discovered the Columbia River, named after his ship, thus helping to establish American claims to the Oregon Territory. The editor has compiled "everything of value that is still extant" relating to the two voyages, including ship logs, personal narratives, and journals.
