Softcover. Condition: Good. Includes small pamphlet insert, "Remarks on Spinoza's 'Ethics'" by R. G. Bosanquet, off-printed from 'Mind' Vol.LIV, July 1945, introduced by R. B. Braithwaite (Bosanquet was a young Cambridge scholar killed in fighting south of Rome in June 1944, "a most promising philosopher as well as a very attractive and lovable personality"). Insert is fine. No markings or inscriptions to the journal. Binding is tight and the cover remains robust, with rubbing to the edges and some sporadic foxing.

In light brown issue wrapper.pp.137-228+(2, various publishers' ads, also inside both front and back covers); internally clean, tight and unmarked, slight curl to bottom front corners, bottom spine chipped with loss of most of year number, spine tanned. Two notable papers are Arthur O.Loverjoy's 'The Meanings of 'Emergence' and its Modes' and G.Elliot Smith's 'The Philosophical Background of Ethnological Theory', there are also short surveys of recent philosophy and psychology books, the latter by Beatrice Edgell plus book reviews of works including Whitehead's 'Religion in the Making' (by Susan Stebbing), Head's 'Aphasia and Kindred Disorders of Speech' (by John Laird) and William Brown's 'Mind and Personality' (by Aveling). Finally there is a 'Correspondence' section in which 2 reviewed authors take great exception to their reviewers, who then respond robustly (Stebbing again being one of them).

Soft cover. Condition: VG for age. 1st ed. pp. 153-276+2 (various publishers' ads, continued inside back cover, also verso front); internally clean, tight and unmarked. Light brown issue card covers clean but spine tanned and short tear bottom front joint now neatly closed with tear repair tape. Contents include Thomson on 'Purpose in Evolution', Norman Campbell on 'The Errors of Sir Arthur Eddington' and William Brown on 'Hypnotism and Suggestion', there are also reviews of philosophy in Italy and Russia and extensive reviews of now classic books such as A.E. Taylor's 'Mind of a Moralist. Gifford Lectures', Jeans 'The Mysterious Universe', and Spearman's 'Creative MInd', Flugel's 'Psycholgoy of Clothes' along with others on Dewey, Leibniz etc. This journal was previously titled Journal of Philosophical Studies, and its volume numbers are continuous with that.

A particularly interesting issue of this excellent but short-lived journal including Lloyd Mogran on Behaviourism, Lossky on 'The Primitive and Civilized Mind', aesthetics, idealism and 'The Problem of Colour in Relation to the Idea of Quality' to which Morris Ginsburg contributed, pp.234-237 are a 'Psychological Survey' of recent publications by Beatrice Edgell.
