The series began in 1853 as Cassell's Illustrated Family Paper, became Cassell's Magazine in 1867, and Cassell's Family Magazine from 1874-1896, after which it became Cassell's Magazine again. Our collection includes the complete 1874-1896 series. This volume contains A Terrible Temptation by Charles Reade (complete serialisation); short stories include: Like a Woman by Annie Thomas, Paquette by James Grant; and miscellaneous short stories and articles. The burgundy coloured boards have bevelled edges; blind stamped borders; gilt decorated title field with burgundy titles and blind stamped spine. The boards have had a previous repair to the cloth on and around the spine. They are very tightly bound and flat and a bit marked.Good condition. The end papers are black and a little warped and with re-enforced black tape along the gussets. There is a pink sticker on the front paste down with 'W. H. Smith & Son's Subscription Library, 186, Strand, London And At The Railway Bookstalls'. The text block is illustrated throughout by many artists, including Frank Carless; M. E. Edwards; E. Hebblethwaite; W. Hodson; E. Hughes. The pages are printed in two columns and securely attached. They are a little warped and with slight marks on many of the pages.
