See Garrison-Morton 2871 for Cournand and Ranges's 1941 paper on the "first investigations with the cardiac catheter as a clinical method of investigation." André Cournand shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1956 with Werner Forssmann and Dickinson Richards "for their discoveries concerning heart catheterization and pathological changes in the circulatory system."
