Dust Jacket Condition: dj. First American Edition. Small octavo (19cm.); original cloth, blue printed paper labels mounted to upper cover and spine, cream dust jacket printed in brown; 96pp.; illus. Jacket spine a bit darkened, ownership signature of a J.F. Foster to front pastedown. Fine/Near Fine. Second in the author's "Gas" trilogy, preceded by The Coral and followed by Gas II. Here a great explosion errupts in a factory, leaving the business in ruins, a metaphor for the effect of World War I on Germany. See Ernst Schurer, German Expressionist Plays, pp. xvi-xviii.
