Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is the first installment in a series of papers describing the preparation, measurement, and certification of National Bureau of Standards Standard Reference Materials (SRMs). SRMs are well-characterized materials that calibrate a measurement system to ensure compatibility of measurement across a nation. This book focuses on the comparison of original and supplemental Standard Reference Material 705, a narrow molecular weight distribution polystyrene, that serves as a primary standard in many diverse scientific, industrial, and technological fields. The author provides in-depth detail of the measurements made by the National Bureau of Standards to arrive at the certified values of the Standard Reference Material. The methods described within will be of particular interest to scientists and technologists, as they enable the user to assess the validity and accuracy of the measurement process, judge the statistical analysis, and learn the techniques and methods used for work requiring the utmost care and accuracy. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides an exhaustive study of a newly established linear polyethylene standard reference material, with an emphasis on characterizing and standardizing the material for use in a variety of research applications, like polymer rheology and polymer crystal physics. The author utilizes light scattering, gel permeation chromatography, solution viscosity measurements, and other techniques to explore the molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, limiting viscosity numbers in several solvents, melt flow rate, and density of the polymer. By calibrating the gel permeation chromatograph with fractions meticulously characterized by light scattering and osmometry, the author establishes the material as a standard for calibrating other gel permeation chromatographs. This book is a key reference for scientists and researchers requiring a well-characterized sample of linear polyethylene for their research endeavors. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Sue graduated from Harrison-Draughon School of Commerce in Atlanta and attended the Atlanta Division, University of Georgia. She worked in the legal department of the Coca-Cola Company and later was the bookkeeper for the family pharmaceutical businesses.; Her husband, Eugene L. "Gene" Argo (1932-2008) was a graduate of Decatur Boys High School, and served in the Korean War with the United States Coast Guard. Argo attended Emory University and graduated from Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy in 1958 with a B.S. degree in pharmacy. While attending college, Argo began working at Stacy's Pharmacy on Scott Boulevard in Decatur in 1955. In 1960, he became Vice President and co- owner of Stacy's and in 1967, he became President and owner. Argo opened a second pharmacy, Stacy's Pharmacy at Emory Village, in 1973. After selling both Stacy's locations in 1998, Argo opened Stacy's Compound Pharmacy where he worked until his retirement. He was appointed by Governors George Busbee and Joe Frank Harris to terms on the Georgia Board of Pharmacy. ; Herman Eugene Talmadge served as governor of Georgia in 1947 and from 1948 to 1955 and as a U.S. senator from Georgia from 1957 to 1981.He began his career as a staunch segregationist known for his opposition to civil rights, including supporting legislation that would have closed public schools to prevent desegregation.[3] By the later stages of his career, following the enactment of the Voting Rights Act, which gave substance to the Fifteenth Amendment enacted nearly one hundred years before, and increased African American voter participation, Talmadge, like many other Southern politicians of that period, had modified his views on race. Talmadge was a long-serving member of the Senate Agriculture Committee as well as the Senate Finance Committee. During the latter part of his career, he also served as a member of the Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities (better known as the Senate Watergate Committee). ; In an important political and personal memoir, Senator Herman Talmadge writes candidly about power, politics, his personal life and hundreds of powerful--and sometimes pitiful--political figures he knows. 40 photographs. ; FINE/FINE.
