Sue graduated from Harrison-Draughon School of Commerce in Atlanta and attended the Atlanta Division, University of Georgia. She worked in the legal department of the Coca-Cola Company and later was the bookkeeper for the family pharmaceutical businesses.; Her husband, Eugene L. "Gene" Argo (1932-2008) was a graduate of Decatur Boys High School, and served in the Korean War with the United States Coast Guard. Argo attended Emory University and graduated from Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy in 1958 with a B.S. degree in pharmacy. While attending college, Argo began working at Stacy's Pharmacy on Scott Boulevard in Decatur in 1955. In 1960, he became Vice President and co- owner of Stacy's and in 1967, he became President and owner. Argo opened a second pharmacy, Stacy's Pharmacy at Emory Village, in 1973. After selling both Stacy's locations in 1998, Argo opened Stacy's Compound Pharmacy where he worked until his retirement. He was appointed by Governors George Busbee and Joe Frank Harris to terms on the Georgia Board of Pharmacy. ; Herman Eugene Talmadge served as governor of Georgia in 1947 and from 1948 to 1955 and as a U.S. senator from Georgia from 1957 to 1981.He began his career as a staunch segregationist known for his opposition to civil rights, including supporting legislation that would have closed public schools to prevent desegregation.[3] By the later stages of his career, following the enactment of the Voting Rights Act, which gave substance to the Fifteenth Amendment enacted nearly one hundred years before, and increased African American voter participation, Talmadge, like many other Southern politicians of that period, had modified his views on race. Talmadge was a long-serving member of the Senate Agriculture Committee as well as the Senate Finance Committee. Talmadge (1913-2002) was a Georgia Democrat who served the peach state as 70th governor (1947-1948-55) and as senator (1957-81); in 1979 he became the eighth U.S. Senator officiall…y censured -- for "Improper financial conduct, accepting reimbursements for official expenses not incurred, and improper reporting of campaign receipts and expenditures." Senator Adlai E. Stevenson III from Illinois (1930-2021) chaired the Committee on Ethics that brought about this rare censure, and this is his personal copy of the "Hearing Exhibits" volume -- the pictorial record, a massive amount of reproduced documents entered into evidence that chronicle Talmadge's financial misdeeds in excruciating detail. Quite unusual and truly scarce, being "Printed for the use of the Select Committee on Ethics" and not for public distribution -- likely only a handful of copies.
