Paper bound, stapled illustrated wrappers, unpaginated (approximately Pp80). Illustrated with 126 historical photos and maps. Tight and unmarked - a very good or better copy. From the Preface: "Fifteen years have passed since the 19th day of September, 1955 when the running of streetcars ceased on Winnipeg streets. This is an attempt to record and preserve for posterity the appearance that these cars had when developed and turned out for public use. Very little change took place in the design of the horse drawn car. A simple sturdy frame with a suitable coach body mounted upon it; usually not longer than sixteen to eighteen feet in length; it seated twenty passengers and could, upon occasion, accomodate eight more. Locally this vehicle was replaced within ten years by the first electric car. The first electric car, in the established pattern produced by the several manufacturers engaged in this work, provided over the next few years, with minor changes, a picturesque assortment. Over the ensuing years, further designs and modifications produced the variety of electric cars found in local usage permitting this pictorial assemblage of "The Era of Streetcars" in Winnipeg: 1881 to 1955. Acknowledgement: The author gratefully acknowledges the now unknown photographers who have recorded the passing scene; the Manitoba Archies and their facilities; the Manitoba Historical Society and Metro Transit, whose files were generously made accessible." We welcome all reasonable offers on our books. All books in stock and available for immediate shipment from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Paper bound, stapled illustrated wrappers, unpaginated (approximately Pp36). Illustrated with 53 historical photos and one map. Tight and unmarked - a very good or better copy. From the Preface by the author: This book is a companion to its larger predecessor entitled `The Era of Streetcars in Winnipeg, 1881-1955`. The two books will now comprise a set which covers the era of streetcar transportation in and around Winnipeg. To those who had occasion to make use of this service, these books will bring back some memories of a time now past and to those who did not enjoy the pleasure of their use they may be useful in giving an almost first-hand acquaintance of the familiar form they were in.

Paper bound, profusely illustrated throughout, unpaginated (approx Pp118). Very good, with dust jacket. This is an unusual binding in that the dust jacket has full inside flaps, in the French style, in both front and back. Printed on these flaps are full page photos, four in total. These photos are of: 1) the second steam plant -- first for the WESR -- on Assiniboine Avenue at Garry Street, 2) The front section contained the electrical generators which were all belt-driven. 3) The front of the Main Carhouse when new in 1901 looked like this, and 4) Part of the Main Carhouse interior in 1909 showing the inspection pits. (note the new car body in from Fort Rouge shop for mechanical finishing and painting). Tight and unmarked - a very good or better copy with a previous owner's signature and date neatly and modestly at top of title page. From the Preface by the author: "This book combines in one volume my two previous books: The Era of Streetcars in Winnipeg and The Era of Interurbans in Winnipeg. It contains 40 additional photographs, many of streetcars not previously available, and improved versions of some that were included in those books. Because of space limitation, many pictures with interesting stories to tell could not be enlarged upon. It is now twenty years since electric streetcars ceased to operate in Winnipeg. It is my intention to preserve by words and pictures the story of streetcar transportation in Winnipeg beginning with the appearance of the first horsecar on October 20, 1882, its development over the years, and finally its abandonment on September 19, 1955. This is by no means the complete story of the subject, but it is the only work available in published form at the present time. Perhaps at some future date a more definitive version by a researcher with more time and facilities at his disposal will make its appearance. In the meantime, may this book fill the gap in providing a source of information for those who are interested in this special form of urban transportation as well as serve as a means of some pleasant reminiscing for those with a nostalgic interest in Winnipeg's past history." We welcome all reasonable offers on our books. All books in stock and available for immediate shipment from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
