Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a detailed exploration of the medical understanding and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases during the 18th century. The author challenges prevailing medical practices of the time, such as excessive bloodletting, the administration of mercury, and the use of drastic purgatives, all of which he maintains actually worsened patient outcomes, sometimes leading to death. Through meticulously recorded case studies and a keen eye for empirical evidence, the author presents an alternative method of treatment for various venereal diseases that he claims is not only safer but also more effective and less damaging to the constitution. This book serves as a historical document of medical practices in the 18th century and sheds light on the evolution of our understanding of sexually transmitted diseases and their treatment. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

"Some of the tribes of Indians, in the back parts of America, eat the serpents which they happen to kill in their hunting parties; such as the horned, the rattle, and the mukasoe snakes. [.] This curious circumstance I often had related to me by many of the sage farmers of North America, when I was in that part of the world; some of them of a very philosophic turn of mind: but it is very ingeniously related to me of late by a gentleman of strict honour and integrity, a native of North Carolina, who being a staunch loyalist, forsook an ample fortune in that country to support the royal cause. The following instance he has related to me among many. That he was once present, when a rattle sake, about three feet and half in length, had bit a horse as he was feeding in a meadow which had been mowed. The snake being observed by some workmen, was instantly surrounded by them, who, with long sticks, confined the animal to a small spot of ground in the same meadow. He several times attempted to direct his course to thick cover but care was taken to prevent him, till upwards o two hours was elapsed [.] " - pages 72-73.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.…
