Signature of "John Dumont" in ink on title page and table; the table is also signed by one "W. Israel". An untrimmed, disbound copy with small remnant of the old leather spine. Scattered foxing, most on the front leaf, four-inch closed tear, one other small closed tear and pencil checkmarks on the folded table, old stain on final two endleaves, good or better overall. An address by Indiana Senator William Hendricks, delivered before the U.S. Senate on January 28, 1828. This copy includes a separate table, bound in by Dumont, listing the members of the House of Representatives of 1832-33. A scarce pamphlet from the library of John Dumont, a member of the Indiana Legislature in 1822-23, and a candidate for the office of Governor against David Wallace. He was the father of Ebenezer Dumont, a Civil War Union Army General, and married to Julia Louisa Dumont, a chief figure among a group of writers and poets who flourished in the Ohio Valley. The author *Life Sketches from Common Paths: A Series of American Tales* (1856), she is known today as the first Hoosier to win national acclaim for her prose.
