Heldring was als 17jarige scholier per 16 februari 1935 toegestreden tot de 'hoofdredactie'. Zijn eerste bijdrage heette "Gaat onze beschaving te gronde?" ("Gaat onze beschaving te gronde? Op deze vraag antwoord ik: "Neen!" Maar toch zie ik de toekomst onzer cultuur donker in." enz.) In nr.13 schreef hij het hoofdartikel "Nederland in zijn verhouding tot andere staten." ("Dat mooie soldaatje spelen, die mooie pakjes van de Duitschers vinden kinderen prachtig en de Duitschers ook: De Duitscher is nog een groot kind.".
