Plates show three examples of the artist's work in the show. Brochure is very clean and intact except for light to moderate wrinkling throughout and a tiny closed tear at head of spine. A Very Good copy. Original brochure published on the occasion of an exhibition of paintings by Irma Engel at the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco. Text by Walter Heil. The brochure includes a list of works in the show. Irma Engel (c. 1906-2003) was a German-American artist who became well-known for her figurative paintings of people, landscapes, and nature. As noted in this brochure, Irma was quoted as saying that her childhood in the Rhine Valley of Germany instilled in her a lasting love of nature. She studied at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 1932, Irma married Samuel Engel, a professor of opthalmology at Stanford University. Following Samuel's passing, Irma married Edwin E. Grabhorn (1889-1968). Edwin founded the famous Grabhorn Press with his brother, Robert Grabhorn (1900-1973) in 1919.
