The text block edges have the publisher's red stain. Floral patterned endpapers and frontispiece portrait of B. S. Heath. Very good. The sp…ine and covers are faded and mildly rubbed, and the spine ends and corners of the covers are gently bumped. There is a ding in the top edge of the front board, and the underlying boards are exposed along the bottom edge of the front board. The pages are tanned. Uncommon. Biographical Edition, with a Biography of Benjamin S. Heath by Louisa M. Heath. Louisa writes, "Mr. Heath's one marked weakness, if it be a weakness, was too great confidence in the integrity and honor of his fellow men. Scrupulously upright himself in all his dealings, he was inclined to judge others by his own standard of integrity. He often said that he could not, and would not, harbor suspicions against his fellow-men who seemed fair and honest; he rather be deceived and betrayed a thousand times than to cultivate and cherish this ignoble spirit in his heart.".
