Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Ernest Haslehurst (illustrator). ### The THAMES by G E Milton - 1906 ## ## THIS BOOK: Classified as GOOD: This is the 1906 Edition. First published in 1906. ## ##The book has a thick cardboard cover, black title and a wonderful painting of Wallingford Bridge with Streatley Hills in the background. There are twelve illustrations by Ernest Haslehurst, all in wonderful colour, painted before 1906 when time went slower. This remarkable book has many interesting facts and information about the Thames and the famous people of the time. The book cover looks a bit, used, with bumping and shelf wear, no major foxing, and the spine is intact and still tight; ex-owner labels inside. ## ## Sample: Windsor Castle with a steamboat in the water, Marlow Lock with the church in the background and Folly Bridge, Oxford, a canoe rowed, a steamboat tied up at the Folly Mill and the bridge and Mill. Just three of these illustrations are within. ## EXCERPT: When the American wondered what all the fuss was about and guessed "that any one of his home rivers could swallow the Thames and never know it, the Englishman replied, he guessed " it depended at which end the process began. If at the mouth, the American river would probably get no farther than the " greatest city the world has ever known " before succumbing to indigestion! ## ## With rivers, as with men, size is not an element in greatness, and for no other reason than that it carries London on its banks, the Thames would be the most famous river in the world. It has other claims too, which are here with pen and pencil; at present, we are not dealing with London, but with that river of pleasure Spenser wrote. ## ## INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, contact me for a shipping quote to your country; FREE shipping is only available within the United Kingdom. ##.
