Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Stapled, white self-wraps with blue titles. This copy has light, general wear and aging along with a quarter-sized tear in the center of the rear wrap that has resulted in a very small missing piece and some creasing around the tear. This tear affects an ad only. Overall the magazine is still in VG condition. I am isting this magazine because of an article on Old Corn Meal: A Forgotten Urban Negro Folksinger by Henry A. Kmen. This article presents most of the known information on Old Corn Meal who was a New Orleans street performer in the 1830's and 1840's often cited as the first African-American stage performer. His version of the "Long Tail Blue" made it a standard of minstrelsy. Old Corn Meal is an important figure in the development of African-American music. ; Vol. XIV, Nos. 1&2; B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 22 pages.
