Hardcover. Blue-gray cloth boards, color illustrated dj, mylar covering. 144 pp. 60 lovely large color reproductions of paintings. From the dj: The rural American landscape is fading like old lumber on the side of a barn, victim of urban sprawl and modernization. Sams, a masterful storyteller, writes 16 vignettes, each marked with power and grace, about America's countryside. Harrison, one of the country's premier artists of rural American, demonstrates an unerring eye and unmatched style. The quality of his work, archival yet artistic, reduces the magnitude of our common loss. VG+ / VG+, mylar cover scuffed. DJ has stamp "autographed copy" on it. Signed by both Harrison and Sams on the half-title page. Jim Harrison (illustrator). …

Faint creasing across pamphlet. (Sabin 16985). Thomas Corwin's speech is considered "the most brilliant combination of humor and invective ever delivered" in the House. Corwin stated that Congressman Crary, a militia general in the state of Michigan, did not participate in the militia's parade day and instead "slices the watermelons that lie in heaps around him," implying Crary's lack of strength and bravery. The speech was so influential that Crary was not renominated to Congress upon the end of his term.
