Includes significant selection of poems by Charles Cooper (his first appearance in print), Kattie M. Cumbo, Julia Fields, Carole Gregory, William J. Harris, Lance Jeffers, Alicia Loy Johnson, James Arlington Jones, and Richard W. Thomas. While it notes that most of these poets had been published to some extent, most had not had as many poems published as were included here, and all are under the age of 50. Their work was part of a collective explosion of African-American creativity that defined the era's literary landscape.
