Condition: very good, very good. 147, illus., appendix, roster, notes, reading list, index, DJ in plastic sleeve. Curtis Hard was the colonel of the Eighth Ohio Volunteer Regiment. Although his men saw no combat service in the Spanish-American War (they arrived in Cuba only a few days before the armistice at Santiago), Hard provides valuable information about the mechanics of mobilization, camp life, the pace and problems of campaigning, and the serious problem of malaria and other illnesses.

Hard has written a personal and compelling account of the last days of the Spanish American war. The regiment arrived only a few days before the Armistice but "the value of Hard's account lies elsewhere- in the story he tells of the men in his regiment." A very good copy, in dust jacket (147 pages, 19 illustrations, notes, bibliography, index).
