Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Ex-library. Original blind-embossed brown cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Front hinge is cracked and becoming loose at bottom edge. Pages 229-530 show dampstain at top corner. Bookplates, stamps, catalog number, and card pocket of the Congregational Library, Boston, as well as bookplates of Joshua Wyman Wellman and Arthur H. Wellman. Joshua Wellman (1821-1915) was the pastor of the First Congregational Church in Malden MA, and Arthur Wellman (1855-1948) was a member of the Massachusetts General Court and a professor at Boston University School of Law. This is a book of Scottish philosophy and metaphysics book is arranged in three parts: the philosophy of common sense, the philosophy of perception, and the philosophy of the conditioned. Discussed within these chapters are Reid's doctrine of perception and its defense against Sir Thomas Brown, errors of Reid, doctrine of perception maintained by the Absolute Idealists, the scheme of Arthur Collier, Royer-Collard, Cousin's doctrine of the infinito-absolute, and more. Sir William Hamilton, 9th Baronet FRSE (1788-1856) was a Scottish metaphysician. Hardcover, acceptable condition, dampstained. 530 pages, octavo.
