The author explores the device's potential to reduce costs significantly by improving bloodspot detection accuracy. The technology is tested in two separate systems, with one group of eggs having a quality range of 60 to 80 percent A quality and the other group having a range of 80 to 100 percent A quality. The results show a $0.03 per case savings in grading costs when electronic bloodspot detection preceded by flash candling is used instead of manual grading. However, if manual grading of individual eggs were added to flash candling and use of the bloodspot detector, there would be a total added cost of $0.13 per case above the costs of traditional methods. The book concludes that the cost-effectiveness of the electronic bloodspot detector depends on the efficiency and accuracy of manual grading.
