Brochure originale, agrafée. Condition: Gut. 10 p. Un bon exemplaire propre. Sprache: Französisch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 4to (33 cm), 272 pp. Hardcover in dust jacket (dust jacket slightly frayed at extremities). Text in Armenian, Russian, and English. Published under the auspices of the Matenadaran -- the Mashtots Institute of Old Manuscripts -- this is a major survey of the Vaspourakan school of Armenian manuscript illumination, covering the thirteenth through seventeenth centuries. The introductory study traces the historical and artistic development of the tradition centered in the Lake Van region, discussing its iconography, stylistic features, vivid color schemes, and strong connections with popular and folk art, as well as its relationships with other Armenian and Eastern traditions, including Cilician, Cappadocian, and Syrian-Arabic influences. The plates reproduce approximately 100 miniatures and decorated pages in color and black-and-white from manuscripts preserved in the Matenadaran and other collections, each accompanied by commentary. The volume concludes with indexes of artists and manuscripts and a list of illustrations. An important scholarly production, essential for the study of Armenian medieval art.
