Probably a proof ed, before captions.Biography engraver: Jacob Philipp Hackert (1737-1807) was a German landscape painter from Brandenburg who became one of the most prominent landscape artists in Italy during the 18th century. He worked for European nobility including Catherine the Great and King Ferdinand I of Naples. A friend of Goethe, Hackert was celebrated for his serene, classical landscapes and also worked as a court painter and restorer. Hackert trained at the Prussian Academy in Berlin and traveled across Europe before settling in Italy. In Naples, he painted royal residences and port scenes for the Bourbons. Despite political turmoil, his reputation endured, and he influenced many Italian landscape artists. Goethe later published a biography of him in 1811. Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing, soiling and creasing. Remains of tape from attachment. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
