Later, with his collections of short stories Om lidt er vi borte (We'll Soon Be Gone, 1939) and To minutters stilhed (Two Minutes' Silence, 1944) he established himself as one of the finest authors of short prose pieces in the Danish language, his writing being based on profound psychological insight and a refined suggestive technique, a symbolism of the psyche.
