Condition: Fair. No Edition Remarks. 386 pages. No dust jacket. Brown cloth. Prize plate stuck to front free endpaper. Pages are moderately tanned and foxed throughout. Thumb-marking present. Brown staining to pages throughout. Noticeable creasing to gutter. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Visible crushing to spine ends. Some tanning to spine and edges. Light marks to boards.

Hardcover. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. 384 pages, illus. Not dated but assumed to be 1897 as that is the year indicated on the prize presentation certificate stuck to front pastedown. Binding a little one-sided; bumping to spine; wear and damage to corners, in the case of rear top corner extending downwards by 2cm; some page binding weaknesses in first few pages; end papers foxed; odd mark internally; but biggest negative is damage to vast majority of pages along line of top open corner which in many instances has resulted in a portion of the page (maybe 2.5cm square at worst) missing, though what caused this is not clear (see further uploaded pics for attempt to show this damage). Overall thus poor condition, effectively a reading copy (though perfectly readable).

Previous owner name, notation and date, March 22, 1883 on front end pages. Pages foxed and yellowed; End pages decorated with beige background and leaf designs. Page edges darkened. Front inside spine hinge weakened and split but pages intact. Black hard covers with gild and black lettering; green embossed raised border, letterng and leaf designs on front. Moderate shelf wear; with slight fraying on spine ends, edges, and corners. Chapter headings include: A Lark across Country; The Three Harchesers; First 2 Years-Osborne and Wardleigh; Wilton; Responsions; A Strande Visitor; Barton's Letter; A Sensational Adventure; The End of the Long; The Money-Lender; Endicot Again; The Final Schools; Wilton's Troubles; The Cricket Dinner; Euthanasia, etc. VERY RARE VINTAGE COPY.

Binding is weakened. Pen inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have heavy edge-wear with bumping to corners, crushing to spine ends and rub wear all over. Lettering is obscured. Book has a slight forward lean. Heavy tanning to spine.

No Jacket. small blue book with decorated covers, pink flowers and lady's head, undated but early, probably around 1900, endpapers have browned but pages clean and biright, frontispiece illustration, top hinge just becoming slightly loose at the webbing but overall an attractive copy, page numbering starts at page 5 jumps to 66 but no text missing.
