The Compleat Anachronist began in July 1982 as the Society's outlet for single-subject research, each number written by members for members. Falconry (No. 17) and castle building (No. 19) come from the original Michigan editorship; from No. 22 the series was edited from Lawndale, California, in the Los Angeles kingdom to which the labels were mailed, and Nos. 28 and 29 were printed by Raymond's Quiet Press.
