Original SCA mailing labels addressed to John Griffin Trimble on all but No. 25, whose label has come away; the label on No. 39 reads "SCA - Board of Directors, John Trimble." Twelve numbers of the Society for Creative Anachronism's bimonthly monograph series, with the original subscription mailing labels addressed to John Griffin Trimble (1936-2024), John ap Griffin in the Society, described by the SCA as one of its founding members and the first person to register arms with its College of Arms; the label on the 1988 Costume Studies number is addressed to him as a member of the Society's Board of Directors. The Compleat Anachronist began in July 1982 as the Society's outlet for single-subject research, each number written by members for members. Falconry (No. 17) and castle building (No. 19) come from the original Michigan editorship; from No. 22 the series was edited from Lawndale, California, in the Los Angeles kingdom to which the labels were mailed, and Nos. 28 and 29 were printed by Raymond's Quiet Press. Subjects: saints, relics and canonization (No. 21); designing and registering SCA arms and badges (No. 22, the standard members' guide, with the earliest known heraldic representation from the tomb of Geoffrey Plantagenet on the rear cover); weapons and armour of Western Europe 400-750, 750-1000 and 1100-1350 (Nos. 23, 24 and 29); medieval gardens and their plants (No. 25); fabrics for the costumer (No. 28); the continuation of the Deer Abbey stories (No. 30); the persecution of witchcraft to 1500 (No. 32); and costume articles reprinted from Seams Like Old Times (No. 39).
