Its reputation among collectors and interior decorators, particularly during the recent upsurge of interest in Chinese furniture, has risen to new heights. It is therefore a pleasure to make this rare book available once again-this time in a complete and unabridged photographic reprint of original edition, including all of its 161 plates, in which 122 masterpieces of Chinese furniture are illustrated, 21 of them in measured drawings.Dr. Gustave Ecke was long-time resident of China and a staff member at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, produced his landmark book on Chinese domestic furniture while serving on the staff of the Catholic University of Peking. He reports from Honolulu that he is putting the finishing touches to a new book on Chinese painting."Published originally in Peking in 1944, in a limited edition of 200 copies. The present edition (being a slightly revised edition) was published in 1963, being almost entirely a facsimile reproduction of the original. Our copy (of the 1963 edition) is from a 3rd print run in 1971. Brown cloth-covered with Dust jacket. Minor scuffs and marks, edgewear, 2.5cm (closed) tear, slight discolouration to DJ. Cloth-covered is clean. Minor marks to block. Internally pages are clean, with no tears, marks or annotations noted. The images remains good. Binding remains good.
