Hardcover. 1st edition. pp. xvi, 220. 8vo. Bound in original brown cloth, embossed in blind. Illustrated with folding maps and charts. The binding of this volume shows considerable wear, but our binder has discreetly stabilized any deterioration and strengthened the hinges, and replaced the endpapers. One portion of one map has been taped, leaving a yellow residue. Otherwise, the contents are clean and tight. William Baly (1814-1861) was a British physician who completed his medical studies at the Royal College of Surgeons, with post-graduate work at Paris, Berlin, and Heidelberg. He returned to London in 1836 and went into private practice. In 1859 he was appointed physician to Queen Victoria. He did significant research on dysentary and cholera.…
