This unevenly torn fragment of a page is darkened and creased. Folded for mailing. Good. Known as Vienna's "Kammervirtuose", the Austrian pianist & composer Alfred Grunfeld (1852-1924) was the first significant pianist to make a commercial recording. Grunfeld was a student of Josef Krejci at the Prague Conservatory and later of Theodor Kullak and J.T. Hoyer at the New Academy of Music in Berlin. Settling in Vienna, he toured Europe and the United States before he was appointed Court Pianist to Germany's Emperor Wilhelm I. Grunfeld became a professor at the Vienna Conservatory in 1897.…

ALFRED GRÜNFELD (1852-1924) österreichischer Pianist, Komponist und Musikpädagoge / austrian pianist, composer and teacher. Am bekanntesten ist wohl seine Konzertparaphrase über Johann Straußsche Walzermotive ?Soirée de Vienne?, Op. 56, die auch heute noch gerne im Konzertsaal zum erklingen gebracht wird und durch die prunkvoll-virtuose Ausschmückung des Werkes dem Pianisten einiges an Fingerfertigkeit abverlangt. Sein Bruder Heinrich Grünfeld (1855?1931) war ebenfalls ein bekannter Komponist und Cellist.

Grünfeld (1852-1924) war ein österreichischer Pianist, Komponist und Musikpädagoge. 1873 kam er nach Wien, wo er Professor am Neuen Wiener Konservatorium wurde. Bei zahlreichen Konzertreisen durch Europa und die USA wurde er vor allem durch seine Konzertparaphrasen von Strauss-Walzern bekannt. Johann Strauss (Sohn) widmete ihm seinen "Frühlingsstimmenwalzer? Grünfeld war der erste bedeutende Pianist von dem eine umfangreichere Anzahl von Aufnahmen auf Platte und Welte-Klavierrollen gemacht wurden.
