Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1829, 16mo, 12pp. Wrps. Covers soiled, contents VG with no foxing, else G. Alexander Viets Griswold, (1766-1843), was the first and only bishop of the Eastern Diocese, which included all the churches in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. He was largely responsible for recreating the Church in New England. A bit of a mystery: There is a note dated July 8, 1810, laid in, from B. (?) Crocker, addressed to "Right Rev & Dear Sir" declining to meet on a certain day and requesting that other arrangements be made. It is unclear to whom the note is addressed, but the name A. V. Griswold, Bristol, is written on the front flap, not necessarily in a position indicating that the note was addressed to him. Also the note is written on paper previously used for other notes on the rear flap so it is not clear why the note is laid in this pamphlet, or whether it was ever sent. However, in 1810, the author was living in Bristol, RI, and serving as the rector of St. Michael's Church. There was an N. B. Crocker, who was rector of St. John's Church, Providence, but it is uncertain whether he was the writer of the note.
