Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. Limited Edition. DERRYDALE PRESS RECORDS OF NORTH AMERICAN BIG GAME P.N. GRAY 1990 TAN CLOTH. I have recently acquired a series of books from the Derrydale Press of Lyon, Mississippi about hunting and fishing and outdoor life. These books are extremely well-made, in quality bindings, and have been very well cared for by their former owner. I am going to list them over the course of the next few days, together, to facilitate an interested buyer finding them among my many listings. Here is another which as I understand it, was intended to be an exact replica of a very similarly bound volume issued by the Boone and Crockett Club in 1932. Please find then: Records of North American Big Game, Prentiss N. Gray, Editor, published by the Derrydale Press under the auspices of the National Collection of Heads and Horns at the New York Zoological Society. This large hardcover book (8 ¾ x 11 ¼ inches, 179 pages) is bound in tan buckram with gilt titles on cover and spine. Please note that each category of game typically includes a few pictures of different varieties of the animals in question. The page edges are full gilt all round and there is a brown satin page-marker bound-in. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. The handsome tan boards are clean and bright as are their gilt titles. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are clean and bright throughout. The binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

The first collection of American big game trophies of which we have record was made by Queen Elizabeth during the 16th Century. Her officials in the transatlantic colonies were commissioned to send back to England the finest specimens obtainable in the new world. As a result, five great moose heads were shipped to England and found a place of honor in the Great Hall of Hampton Court Palace over the dais where a succession of British sovereigns has dined on state occasions. The present day visitor will recognize them with some difficulty for the officers of the Queen's household evidently had little faith in the taxidermists of their time and no scruples against nature faking. The horns were affixed to carved wooden replica of Cervus elaphus, the European red deer, the game animal with which the English wood carvers of the day were most familiar.
