Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 8 photocopy leaves, paged 15 to 22 bound with string and candle wax, through 3 punch holes to folding board, illustrated and stamped on all sides, with extended string and more candle wax junctures. Inside, a six panel fold-out in a collage of illustrations, text; photographs, hand stamps with some sections pasted down, on both sides of the panels. Seven pages of photocopy text, typed on one side attached to the outside back board. With Mamblanca mailing envelope, one side covered in postal stamps, ticket, etc. Addressee on label is Tourism Show on Travel, HELLER ART GALLERY, 304 Eshleman Hall, U. C. Berkeley, (etc. ) ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; The Argentine Graciela Gutiérrez Marx is one of the foremost Latin American exponents of mail art (a practice that involved sending small-scale art using the postal service). Born in La Plata in 1945, she graduated in 1967 with a degree in education and sculpture from the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes, Universidad Nacional de La Plata. In the late 1960s Gutiérrez Marx exhibited her work at the Galería Lirolay in Buenos Aires and won several prizes for her rusted-metal sculptures. Through her friendship with Edgardo Antonio Vigo (19281997) , with whom she would later work, she became interested in mail art. This piece doesn't seem to compare, at least in terms of leaves cited (56) , with the closest item I can find on WorldCat: Los codices marginales de MaMaBLAnCa 1, the marginal codices of MaMaBLAnCa 1 : grupo familia, reconstruccio n del mito; family group, assembling a myth. The citation only described "in portfolio.".

Condition: Very Good +. 178 x 129 mm, 'Project of an "Early project" for Poetic Architecture No. 3/78, artists' card. Recto is printed black, blue and brown (lithograph and woodcut design?). Verso includes the 048 rubber stamp by Marx & Vigo and is addressed to Peter van Beveren and dated 1978. To quote the Lomholt Mail Art Archive website page : 'Graciela Gutiérrez Marx, the renowned Argentinian artist, is one of the pioneers of experimental art in Latin America. She was born in La Plata and studied sculpturing at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, besides others with Aurelio Macchi, a Zadkine student. She has a Masters degree in Aesthetics and her first sculptures were made from scrap. In 1969 she learned about Mail Art and new forms of concrete and visual poetry from E. A. Vigo. She began making woodcuts like Vigo did, and became active in the Mail Art network in 1975. Her life in Mail Art was shared with Vigo during the black years of dictatorship in Latin America and particularly in Argentina between 1977 and 1983. Together, they worked as G. E. Marx-Vigo.' (End Quote). We are unclear on Marx/Vigo's rubber stamp numbering system - could this be his 48th postcard work ? Ref: Eguardo Antonio Vigo: A collection, Richard Saltoun Gallery, London, 2017, p. 20.Condition: ding and some creasing to top left corner recto, ding and stain stain to top right and top left verso and handling mark to lower right and corner.
