This book has been written in response to such an interest, and to present hypnotherapy as a reasonable, well~balanced and effective method of treatment in modern medical science. As a result of their long experience in this field, the authors feel there is little doubt that the wise use of the hypnotic state can be of considerable value in treating many and varied disorders whose origins lie below the level of consciousness. Anxiety, repression and frustration in adults and children, obesity and smoking, alcoholism, homosexuality: hypnotherapy may provide an answer to all these problems. There is a most interesting section on hypnosis in midwifery, which shows how, with the use of hypnotherapy, much unnecessary pain may be obviated. Throughout the book the emphasis is on the interaction of body and mind in the origin and development of illness, and on the importance of hypnotherapy in the treatment of nervous disorders. The authors draw attention to a subject not merely of academic importance but of considerable practical value and universal application.
