Soft cover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: None as Issued. First Edition, First Thus. Text/BRAND NEW & Bright. Softcover (detail of Birth of Venus)/NF; w/trace shelfwear & faint creasing to upper back corner. Works of Italian, Early Renaissance painter Sandro Botticelli (born Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi) (c.1445 - 1510). He belonged to the Florentine School patronized by Lorenzo de Medici. Beautifully illustrated w/color plates, volume features 8 of Botticelli's paintings leading with The Adoration of the Magi (1475) containing what is believed to be his self portrait. Know for the Primavera and The Birth of Venus, he also spent time painting in Pisa (1474) and the Sistine Chapel (1481). Leonardo da Vinci was 7 years his junior and part of a new generation of painters marking High Renaissance style focusing on realistic depiction of human anatomy, perspective, and landscape. 63 pgs w/color plates; prefatory history precedes Botticelli's works.
