4to; [32]pp, printed on rectos only, 33 hand-coloured wood engravings by R.S. Gilbert (including title page), repaired closed tears to vi and xxi (not affecting text or illustrations), occasional light finger-soiling, neat ownership signature to front free endpaper; original red leather gilt, loss to foot of spine, neat restoration to head of spine, joints and corners slightly rubbed, all edges gilt; a very good copy. Gray's Elegy, first published in 1751, is among the most iconic poems in the English language. This edition, with 33 charming hand-coloured wood engravings, is particularly attractive, both for the illustrations and the binding.
