The album was begun in 1621 and continued for more than half a century, with inscriptions dating from 1621 to 1679. De Glarges's album is exceptional because of its duration, breadth of contacts, and concentration of distinguished names. Among those represented are René Descartes, Jacob Cats, Constantijn and Christiaan Huygens, Caspar Barlaeus, Daniel Heinsius, Isaac Vossius, Claude Saumaise/Salmasius, André Rivet, Joannes Meursius, Petrus Scriverius, and many other scholars, diplomats, artists, military figures, and members of the political elite.
