An Everyman's Library edition presenting Church of England Prayer Books as issued in 1549 and in 1552 during the reign of Edward VI. Per the jacket flap, the books were "chiefly the work of Archbishop Cranmer and John Hooper, Bishop of Gloucester." They were developed due to a general feeling that liturgical reform was needed. With an introduction by Right Rev. E. C. S. Gilbert, Bishop of Gloucester. Everyman's Library catalog no. 448. --- In Everyman's Library larger format binding style 4. Full green cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling and interlocked 'EL' at tail of spine. In green dust jacket with 'Everyman's Library' surrounded by scrollwork to front panel. --- A generally well-preserved copy: unmarked and tightly-bound, though with a mild cover corner bump. Poor-only, unclipped, unpriced jacket with large missing chunks, as well as smaller chips and several tears & rubbing; what's left is wrapped in new removable archival mylar protector.; 12mo - 7 to 7-1/2 in. tall; xiv, 463, [2] pages.
