First edition of Gerald Durrell's debut book, The Overloaded Ark, which chronicles a six-month collecting trip, from December 1947 to August 1948, to the West African colony of British Cameroon - now Cameroon and Nigeria - that Durrell made with aviculturist and ornithologist John Yealland. Published by the Viking Press in 1953 with illustrations by Sabine Baur. Cloth-bound hardcover with dust jacket. No ISBN number as this was published previous to 1960. Library of Congress Catalog number is 53-8618. This was a library book so it does have the library card pocket on the inside page?not checked out since 1983! In very good condition; although the dust jacket was protected it does have a little yellowing commensurate with the age of this book. The only marking on the inner pages is a library stamp on the bottom corner of one page, pictured.
