Handsomely rebound in quarter dark blue leather over dark blue buckram boards with 5 raised bands and leather title labels with gilt to spines. Both volumes bindings in near fine condition. Inside a little toning to pages and the odd mark with volume two sadly having book worm holes to the latter pages starting with just 1 hole to pp204 and gradually getting worse with last two plates and map heavily affected (see photos). Despite intrepid bookworms this is a nice set of this systematic list of 227 species recorded in or near to Northamptonshire providing the evidence of sightings within the county and beyond, along with more general information on the species, . This is a very heavy set and may cost more postage for overseas orders.

Ici, c'est un noble anglais qui s'adresse à son fils, tandis que celui-ci poursuit ses études à Oxford. C'est sans doute ce qui a fait attribuer le roman à Lord George Littleton (1709-1773), lui-même élevé à Oxford, alors que d'autres en donnent la paternité à Oliver Goldsmith dont on sait qu il Ğ pissait la ligne ğ sous divers pseudonymes pour payer ses incessantes dettes de jeu. Cette dernière phrase nous a laissés perplexes, et le lecteur jugera par lui-même, car pour ceux d'entre nous qui connaissent un peu le parcours de Tacite, il semble avoir fait un Ğ sans faute ğ, terminant sa vie comme gouverneur de la province d'Asie après une brillante carrière d'homme politique, avocat et historien. Qui pourrait en dire autant de nos jours ?

Full period calf binding with gilt ruled borders to boards, five raised bands with gilt compartment decorations, red leather spine label, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, printed on laid paper, 8-1/4" x 5-1/4", 455 + 112 pp. "Resurrection" is the 6th edition 1767; "St. Paul" is the 5th edition, 1754. Small chip to head of spine, ownership inscription dated 1768 on the "Resurrection" title page. Both West and Lyttleton were notable poets of their day; Lyttleton was also a patron of the arts, and Henry Fielding's "Tom Jones" is dedicated to him. Both men also had an interest in landscape design. These two works of theology represent another of their interests; Lyttleton's has an interesting thought experiment about Quakers (p. 95): "If, for Instance, A Quaker should in a Meeting of his own Sect, tell all the Persons assembled there, that to some among them was given the Gift of Healing by the Spirit of God, to others the working of other Miracles, to others diverse kinds of Tongues, they would undoubtedly account him a Madman, because they pretend no such Gifts." He goes on from there.

The greatest number of plates were drawn by Archibald Thornburn. The survey includes many birds that are infrequent visitors to Britain, making it very complete. With generally short texts on each species, this is primarily a visual source work. Publisher's half morocco. Pebbled cloth on boards.
